Aloe Vera in the Beauty Industry

Skin aging and the symptoms of wrinkles

A study carried out and published by the Annals of Dermatology in 2009, proved that just ¼ teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel can significantly reverse the signs of skin aging in 90 days. To anyone, this should be good news.

Skin aging and the symptoms of wrinkles is something none of us can avoid in the long run. They tend to show up more as you get older and for some, this can be heartbreaking. There is a scientific explanation behind this which we have provided below.

We know that the skin has layers which function to support the outer layer we see. The thing is, as you celebrate each birthday and grow older the inner layer of the skin begins to thin out. The cells now divide slowly unlike before and a significant reduction in structure, moisture, and natural oils occur. The result of these is visible wrinkling of the skin.

Now, while developing wrinkles with age is almost unavoidable because of this natural process, it is important to know that wrinkles and skin aging can occur because of other factors. This premature skin aging and wrinkling is what every person, especially ladies, dread. When they are left to overtake the body, you might end up looking much older and less radiant than your ideal age. These factors are:

Loss of skin elasticity

Usually, this occurs as we age. The skin loses its elasticity and becomes loose and saggy. It directly results from the decrease in fat layers which keep the skin plump. Loss of skin elasticity can equally be triggered by other reasons such as lack of care, unsuitable skin products, health problems, or stress.

Habits like smoking and drinking

Our skin reacts to the way we treat the overall body. Smoking is a bad habit that can affect organs in the body including the skin. Smoking and drinking both speed up the skin aging process, deprives the body of oxygen which is important for radiant skin and causes skin dullness. Chronic smokers or alcohol addicts eventually have dry, wrinkled skin.

Exposure to sunlight

Enjoying the warmth of the sun on your skin is great, but it quickly becomes a problem when this exposure is unnecessarily long. Ultraviolet radiation speeds up the skin aging process and depletes the collagen in the inner layer. In no time the skin will sag and wrinkle. Protecting the skin while under sunlight is important.

Repetitive facial expressions

Some repetitive facial expressions may be the cause of those fine lines around your mouth and eyes. Examples are smiling, frowning, or squinting.

You are what you eat. Your diet can influence the development of wrinkles and other skin aging symptoms. Foods high in fat or sugars do not encourage youthful skin. They cause inflammation and make the body look heavier and older.

For many people, stress is the key factor in their skin aging problems. Stress increases aging symptoms, facial wrinkles and skin sagging.

The last thing most people want is to look older. Hence, the issue of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin is a popular one. Several ideas, products, and solutions have been established but not all are ideal.

People now want effective, affordable, and natural solutions against wrinkles and skin aging. This is not at all surprising because natural solutions give you less or no side effects to worry about. Plus, they are much faster.

Thankfully, this is where a solution like Aloe Vera comes into play. Research and various studies have shown how the plant can reverse skin aging caused by any factor including age. In this article, we will discuss how aloe vera can do this and how you can put this popular green stemless plant to use against wrinkles and skin aging.

How aloe vera reverses skin aging

Packed with vitamins

A lot of variables affect the appearance of the skin and a lack of nutrients such as vitamins are part of them. Aloe vera is packed with vitamins but it is interesting to discover that these vitamins do not directly influence skin aging. How aloe vera uses vitamins to nourish the skin is by synergistic processes. In simpler terms, this means a positive collaboration with other ingredients in the plants. Vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, C, and E are present in aloe vera and work together within the body.

Vitamin C strengthens the immune system and helps to eliminate the effects of toxins in the body. Vitamin E reduces the harmful effects of free radicals and protects the cells from premature aging. Together the impact of aloe vera vitamins on the body contribute immensely to reversing the aging process.

Improves skin elasticity

We mentioned earlier how the reduction or loss of skin elasticity leads to wrinkles and sagging. Aloe vera works to prevent or reverse this action by deeply moisturizing the skin and promoting collagen formation. Aloe vera plays the role of an astringent to maintain skin structure by contraction and pore tightening.

Detoxifies the body using minerals

The minerals in aloe vera include manganese, zinc, and selenium. Manganese helps the body to detoxify itself and selenium eliminates free radicals found in the body. Zinc helps to boost the immune system and promote collagen formation. With these benefits, skin aging is reduced and the skin’s vibrancy gets steadily restored.

Protection from the sun

While aloe vera might not be your go-to alternative for sunscreen, it plays a major role in protecting the skin from damage caused by the sun. It acts against the reduction of skin moisture and cell death by the sun. The extract of the plant rejuvenates the skin and adds a protective barrier. It retains moisture and ultimately prevents the skin from wrinkling.

Anti-oxidant defenses

Antioxidants are vital in your fight against skin aging and wrinkles. They work to reduce the free radicals produced in the body in response to all forms of stresses. These radicals are a worrying issue because they damage cell structure and proteins. Aloe vera has a large amount of active compounds which include flavonoids, polyphenols, ketones, alcohols, and aldehyde. The active compounds are responsible for the antioxidant properties of the plant and this is how aloe vera can successfully combat free radicals in the body. A study was carried out on this in 2015 to determine the true antioxidant capacity of aloe vera. The study found that aloe vera could ease stress caused by free radicals in the body. In addition, it increased the overall antioxidant capacity of the plasma membrane.

Deeply moisturizes

Moisture plays such a vital role in the skin. It is often said that if you can retain adequate moisture in the skin, then you can avoid most skin conditions including dry skin and wrinkling. Youthful, plump skin is one that looks fresh and hydrated. Aloe vera is a deeply moisturizing agent. It can effectively restore the moisture content of the skin. Hence, it is a suitable daily moisturizer to keep wrinkles away.

How you can use aloe vera to prevent or reverse skin aging and wrinkles

Using aloe vera to obtain these benefits can be done in several ways. However, you can either apply the plant topically or ingest it for the results you need. Here are the methods to use.

Drink aloe vera juice + coconut water

Obtain fresh aloe vera juice by removing the gel from the plant and mixing with a little water. This must be done properly and the hard-green flesh should be discarded. An alternative to this step is to purchase fresh aloe vera juice from our store to help you use this method quickly each day.

Mix the juice with coconut water and drink a glass of it three times in a week.

Aloe vera with Vitamin E

Mix one teaspoon of aloe vera gel with one vitamin E capsule. Apply the mixture on the wrinkled areas of your skin. Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash the area with lukewarm water. Do this few times in a week.

Aloe vera with cucumber

Mix aloe vera gel with cucumber juice. Ensure both ingredients are fresh. Apply the mixture on the face or wrinkled areas and leave for 20 minutes. Rinse off afterwards with water.

Aloe vera with lemon

Obtain fresh aloe vera gel and lemon juice. Mix both ingredients together and apply to a clean face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse thoroughly after. Repeat this process daily.

Aloe vera gel can also be applied directly on the skin a few times in the week and washed off after. Also, in each of the methods listed above, aloe vera gel can be replaced with the fresh aloe vera juice. We stock these for your convenience in using aloe vera solutions.
